Songkhla Thailand Coastal City Border with Malaysia

September 7th 2010 | Posted by

Songkhla (สงขลา) is a city (thesaban nakhon) in the Songkhla Province of southern Thailand, near the border with Malaysia. Songkhla is one of Thailand’s important ports and coastal provinces, is located 950 kilometers from Bangkok.

Songkhla has fine beaches, enchanting waterfalls, and a tranquil lake – a manifestation of its abundant natural resources. Despite being only 30 kilometers apart, Songkhla and Hat Yai have uniquely contrasting characteristics and are ideal places to visit.

Songkhla is administratively divided into 16 districts: Muang Songkhla, Ranot, Krasae Sin, Sathing Phra, Singhanakhon, Khuan Niang, Rattaphum, Bang Klam, Hat Yai, Na Mom, Chana, Thepha, Na Thawi, Saba Yoi, Sadao, and Khlong Hoi Khong.

A interesting visit is into the Thaksin Khadi Sueksa Institute (a view over Songkhla from the institute is below). Songkhla is a fishing port since ancient times and has recently become the center of the offshore gas business

Songkhla Nightlife
There isn’t much nightlife in sleepy songkhla. There are bars all along Samila beach. Many karaoke places. Our hotel’s restaurant had a musician, who played Thai and western music. Some people came up and did some karaoke.

There are also some bars on Srisuda Road.
