Chiang Mai is the largest city in Northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province. With a population of over 170,000, it is Thailand’s fifth-largest city. In a recent survey by the Asiaweek magazine, Chiang Mai was ranked as the 9th most livable city in Asia east of Kabul.
The Chiang Mai nightlife is much tamer and quieter than Bangkok, Pattya or even Phuket. Like the rest of Thailand, the nightlife in Chiang Mai is well known for It’s a go-go plenty of beer bars, a couple of discos, one street full of a go-go bars and karaoke lounges.
These are located mostly along the western end of Loi Kroh rd, including a walk-in arcade near the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, and a stretch of Moon Muang rd south of Tapae Gate.
There are also bars, cocktail lounges, karaoke centers, and cabaret shows located on the Moonmuang and Thapae Rd.

Chiang Mai Soapy Massage
The famous (abp-ob-nuad), which literally means “bathe, bake, massage” is also called a “Soapy Massage” because it involves a massage with hot soapy water. There are a couple of Soapy Massages in Chiang Mai, one near the Amari Rincome Hotel by the university, and one on the other side of town out past the Night Bazaar. The one by the Night Bazaar is the nicer of the two, but neither compare with Soapy Massage places in Bangkok or Pattaya.
